We’re all familiar with that heartwarming Christmas scene – shoppers descending on retail outlets in frenzied masses, while the shops do their best to boost Christmas sales.
It wouldn’t be Christmas without the last-minute rush to buy gifts. However, research by Bobatoo suggests that UK consumers are planning to spend less on Christmas gifts this year.
Of 2,000 people surveyed, 41% said they were planning to spend less than £300 on gifts. A similar survey in 2015 showed that most people planned to spend £500-700.
So how can retailers make the most of the Christmas period?
Kiosks are a great way to drive sales and encourage shoppers to spend more. Here are our tips for using kiosks to boost Christmas sales:
Entice shoppers with a well-branded kiosk
Customise your kiosk to match your branding, and place it somewhere shoppers can see it from outside the store.
This will help to grab shoppers’ attention and entice them inside. Make it appealing to look at to encourage shoppers to stop and have a browse.
Make sure your kiosk is simple to use and navigate. Shoppers will be more likely to stay longer if you make it easy for them.
Offer exclusive deals and discounts
Offer a special deal or discount exclusively for people who use your kiosk. This could be a deal on a specific product, or a discount voucher for future use.
Offering a deal will help attract people to use your kiosk. Once you’ve reeled them in, you’ll have an opportunity to push sales further.
If you’re using your kiosk to display products, include plenty of calls-to-action to encourage shoppers to keep browsing your range.
Push excess stock
Use your kiosk to boost Christmas sales on any slow-selling stock. This will help you avoid having leftover stock to mark down after the festive period.
Display the goods you want to sell prominently and include clear calls-to-action.
Again, it could be a good idea to offer a deal on these products. Or you could offer an extra service, like gift wrapping or customisation.
Expand your reach
Don’t limit yourself to the shoppers who are already in your store. Do a bit of research into your target audience – find out who they are and where they might be.
Contact your local council and find out if there are any areas you can hire a pitch to install a kiosk temporarily. This way, you’ll reach new audiences and hopefully expand your customer base.
Remember, branding is key. Your kiosk needs to be recognisable and eye-catching so that shoppers know whose it is.
Use your kiosk to encourage shoppers to follow you on social media or sign up to your mailing list.
Special offers or discounts are a good way to get shoppers to sign up. QR codes are another way to make things easy for them.
Once you’ve got a captive audience, you can use your social media channels and newsletters to push festive products and boost Christmas sales further.

Kiosks can be a brilliant way to boost Christmas sales in the lead-up to the big day. Make them eye-catching and easy to use and offer value to shoppers who use them for the best results.
